The Nissan Z, Porsche Cayman, and Toyota Supra are all around four inches longer than the 86, which measures 167.9 inches in total length. The Mazda Miata, on the other hand, is 18 inches shorter than the Toyota 86. A helmet can fit in the 37 inches of headroom provided for the driver and passenger, but anyone seated in the back seat should plan on a brief journey. Only 6.3 cubic feet of space are available in the trunk, which is nevertheless considered generous for the class. The infotainment system features an eight-inch touchscreen as standard and supports SiriusXM, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and remote-connected services. 2023 Toyota 86 Engine

The 86 continues to use a naturally aspirated engine with four horizontally opposed cylinders that produces 2.4 liters of displacement. Compared to the powertrain of the previous generation, which had a peak torque of 184 pound-feet, it produces 228 horsepower and has a considerably more predictable torque curve. Torsen limited-slip rear differential sends power to the back wheels, giving the driver complete control, while six-speed manual transmission sends power to the front wheels. For $1,500, a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters is offered. The 86 performs poorly compared to its turbocharged rivals in terms of efficiency. The manual transmission variant only gets 20, 27, and 22 mpg accordingly, which are equaled or even surpassed by rival sports cars with more power, while the automatic transmission model gets an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined.
